In the coming months, the Hard Rock Cafe will move to a new location. Renovations costing $2.5 million dollars are currently taking place, as you can see from the photo above. The photo was captured by Peter Verbruggen of Elvis Matters.
Hard Rock Cafe's new location will be at the original location of Lansky Brothers Clothing, historic 126 Beale Street. The historic 108 year old 24,512-square-foot building was also previously home to the restaurants: Elvis Presley's Memphis and later, EP Delta Kitchen.
Memphis architects the Hnedak Bobo Group designed the new space, according to the building permit. W.G. Yates & Sons Construction Company, will build the new restaurant, bar, and rock and roll memorabilia showplace.
Lansky's, a very popular men's clothing store, where Elvis Presley shopped occupied the building from the late 1940's until 1982 when Lanksy's moved to the Peabody Hotel. Lansky's, was established by Bernard Lansky. Bernard, first dressed Elvis in his tux for a high school prom, and he continued to dress Elvis through out the 1950's. Bernard also provided the final suit for Elvis' funeral. Other Memphis music legends also shopped at Lansky's such as: Johnny Cash, Rufus Thomas, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Roy Orbison.
