Help Save Dewey Phillips WHBQ Studio
The Chisca Hotel in downtown Memphis is being renovated and turned into apartments after becoming seriously dilapidated. The inside will be renovated starting in May 2013. In addition to the building having eight floors and hotel rooms it is home to the iconic WHBQ Studio where Elvis' song "That's Alright Mama" was first played on the air and where Elvis gave his first ever radio interview! There is a film group trying to salvage the studio by collecting donations to have the studio moved to the lobby. The studio would be reconstructed using the original materials and furnishings. $50,000 is their estimate to to fund the project.
