Elvis Week Tops "Garden & Gun's" Southern Agenda in August/September Issue
July 29, 2013
Popular southern magazine Garden & Gun lists this year's Elvis Week celebration as a must-do in their upcoming August /September issue. From Elvis Week Main Stage events to the much-anticipated "Aloha From Hawaii" Enhanced Screening, writer Steve Russell gives a glimpse inside Elvis Week 2013.
"You don’t have to cultivate pork-chop sideburns to feel a connection to Elvis. Sixty years since the skinny teenager with a funny name walked into Sun Studio and turned a raucous new music into a global phenomenon, the King of Rock 'n' Roll remains as much a part of Southern DNA as grits and greens," writes Russell.
The article looks at events happening here at Graceland, including the yearly Candlelight Vigil and events taking place around Memphis including the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest and the “Aloha from Hawaii” 40th Anniversary Enhanced Screening.
"Naturally, the epicenter of official events is Graceland, where a main stage shows Elvis movies, and the famous gates open at dusk on August 15, to accommodate a legion of candlelight vigil participants."
