Elvis To Be Honored in Stax Museum's New Exhibit "And The GRAMMY Goes To Memphis”
October 10, 2013
Elvis is being honored, among many other Memphis artists, in a new exhibit at the Stax Museum in Memphis. In conjunction with the 40th anniversary of Stax Recording Academy, the 40th anniversary of the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame and the 10th anniversary of the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, the museum will host a special exhibit beginning October 26, 2013 through October 31, 2014 called “And The GRAMMY Goes To Memphis.” Elvis fans can learn more about his new exhibit by visiting StaxMuseum.com.
This yearlong tribute to Memphis music will include various GRAMMY® Awards for music attributed to this region, including those given to Elvis Presley, Otis Redding, B.B. King, Charlie Rich, and Kirk Whalum, among others. Displayed in the Stax Museum’s 1905 Hooper’s A.M.E. Chapel and its gallery for changing exhibits, “And The GRAMMY Goes To Memphis” also features a B.B. King Lucille guitar, video showcasing rarely seen Memphis Chapter-related GRAMMY moments from The Recording Academy’s archives, never-before-seen photos, an interactive exhibit showcasing several of Memphis’ recording studios, and an interactive exhibit highlighting many of the Memphis Chapter’s community organizations.
The last major studio sessions in Elvis' career happened inside Stax and has been compiled together for the first time in Sony's "Elvis at Stax: Deluxe Edition." The deluxe 3-CD box set is a 40th anniversary chronicle of a dozen nights that Presley spent at Stax Recording Studios in his hometown of Memphis in July and December of 1973. Elvis fans can get a copy of these recordings by visiting ShopElvis.com. Also, be sure to check out the "Elvis at Stax Listening Party," which took place during Elvis Week 2013, by subscribing to Elvis' YouTube Channel and watching online.
