Tupelo city officials have received two bids for a project to build a pathway from downtown Tupelo to the birthplace of Elvis Presley. The bids will next be reviewed by the Major Thoroughfare Committee, the City Council and the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
The bids were by Century Construction for $12.3 million and Key LLC for $11.5 million.
Presley's former home in Tupelo is one of the main points of interest on the Elvis Presley Birthplace Trail.
Officials are hoping for a decision by July. The project includes construction of overlay, roadway and bridge widening, curb, sidewalk, striping along 9,341 feet and traffic signalization from Green Street in downtown Tupelo to the Elvis Presley Birthplace and Museum.
