An 87-year-old Phoenix woman is finally getting her college degree with a little help from the "King of Rock and Roll" Elvis Presley.
Helen Joan Hunter of Phoenix nearly finished her degree in 1947 from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill but got sidetracked with six weeks left in the semester. First, she got appendicitis. Then, she had children.
Hunter originally planned to finish through correspondence courses, but that never happened.
This spring, 66 years later, she earned her last three credits by taking an online course about Elvis through Arizona State University.
ASU is one of a growing number of public universities that have added more online courses in recent years to give students more flexibility.
Hunter is scheduled to graduate May 12 with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish, according to UNC.
